Day 3, The Sustainability Centre which is close to East Meon to Cocking. (19 miles/30kms)
All I can say is that today was relentless, it was wet, cloudy mizzle, slippery either from chalk or mud or both, I went the wrong way which added some distance and a lot of mud.
By the time I got to Manor Farm at Cocking I was done, it was getting to dusk and there was the last lot of slurry to get through. I decided if I fell over, I would just stay lying down and cry. Still raining, my tent pitching times have improved enormously over 2 days but as the tent was soaking from the morning, the grass was very long and wet and it was still raining everything ended up a bit damp/very wet. I decided I would review my plan in the morning so I ate and slept. Disturbed by snoring (2 cyclists who were quitting, fed up with pushing their bikes uphill in the mud. Then their alarm went off at 6 π³π³ so I let the tyres down on their bikes!!
Funniest thing, in retrospect was at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
I was very very drippy but their posh cafe was open. I ordered a latte and flapjack and then asked about a sandwich for lunch
GIRL, if we have any they are in the fridge
I look around can't see a fridge
ME where's the fridge please
GIRL round the corner
I look no sandwiches.
ME there aren't any, would it be possible to make me one (I can see people working in the kitchen)
GIRL no
ME i need something for my picnic lunch
GIRL you could have a bacon and egg butty
ME could I buy a roll from you
GIRL what would you like in it
ME nothing just a roll
GIRL you can't have just a roll
ME i'll pay a proper price for it
GiRL you could scrape everything out of it
ME you could not put anything in it and sell me a roll
GIRL you can't have just a roll
ME π³π³π³π³π³π³π³π³
So while I drank my latte and ate my 1.50 apple I rubbed my feet together and all the mud went on their floor, just sometimes.......
Like I say it was not a great day.
Oh a hover bike....
ReplyDeleteOh Debbi! What can I say? The whole trip so far sounds and looks horrendous. I wonder what the problem was in not being able to buy a plain bun ... very strange! Xx
